Making Your Home Burglar-Proof
By ColoradoHomeLoans.com
One of the most effective things you can do to deter someone entering your house is to project that your house is occupied whether you are on vacation or you're just out for the day and evening. Here"s some proven ways to do that.
- Use two or more timers that are programmed to different times to project visually that someone is home.
- Leave a radio playing on a talk-show or news format to project the sound of someone at home.
- When traveling, have a friend pick up your mail and newspapers and have a mailbox large enough to hold all of a day's mail from view.
- If possible, get a dog or place a large dog dish at the front door. Install a security system sign that can be seen from the street.
PROTECT YOUR CREDIT CARD FROM THIEVES
It's frustrating enough to have your wallet or purse stolen and have to go through the hassle of protecting your credit cards from abuse. But a thief can do even more harm than the immediate use of your credit cards. They can also steal your good credit by setting new accounts in your name and running up debt you don't even know about until it's too late.
WHAT TO DO FOR PROTECTION
- File a police report immediately and give them all the information about your credit cards, identification information, etc.
- Cancel all credit cards and ATM cards immediately Today, make a copy (front and back) of every card or identification you carry in your wallet or purse.
- Don't just write the information down, make copies. And, as soon as you get a new card, make a copy of it for your fIles.
- Report missing cards to a major credit bureau.
- Report the loss to your bank(s) and close all accounts and open new ones. Stop payment on outstanding checks and contact all credit card issuers.
- Call all utility companies.
- Report a missing driver's license to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Change the locks on your home and any security codes. If your car keys were also stolen, get new locks for your car. If the thief knows where you live, he may try to steal your car or break into your home the next time.
